So was Gabriel consumed by the arts before he met Rathina?

I really don't know. Since he didn't return his love, then he may not have been protected from them, and could have been overpowered by the dark arts after he and Rathina met.

I agree, because Rathina said something about Gabriel being good once.... Unless she had just heard about it or something.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that. I don't think that's something you just hear about though... And since Rathina is one of the daughters of the King and Queen of Faerie, and Gabriel's father is one the members of the Conclave of Earls, then I would guess that the two of them would have met long before he was consumed by the Dark Arts.

I before thought Gabriel didn't return her love BECAUSE he was consumed by the arts. But now I see you are probably right.

Wouldn't it be horrid to be in Rathina's position?!

Oh I know!!! It was her fault that Tania was lost to the mortal world, which then caused the princess's mother to be lost, too, and it also caused the loss of Tania's memory. And then, she released the sorcerer king of Lyonesse, (whose army killed Zara,) which caused the covanent to be broken, which then allowed Nargostrond (Lear) and his plauge to return to Faerie. And on top of all that, Gabriel didn't return her love for him.

Goodness, I didn't think of it that way. But she did cause everything! However without her Tania probably would have married Gabriel with his evil ideas, never would meet Edric or her mortal parents or Jade or learn so many lessons!

Yes, however, you really can't miss something you never had. When she was 15 and planning on marring Drake, she truly thought they were in love. It would only be in the hand-fasting ceremony that she would see his true reasons for marrying her. And besides, he can't be taken into the mortal world on Tania's gift alone, for he doesn't love her. And nothing can keep true love away. Eventually Tania and Edric would have met, and everything would have been ok. And if not, well I like to think that it would be.
